Happy Monday!
Did everyone enjoy the snow this weekend?
We have posted some information about Developmental Screenings, Survivors of Suicide Groups, and Project Woman's walk-in clinic.
Couple of big changes to the food pantry schedule- including Catholic Charities.  It is time for tax assistance preparation! We have added a list of places to go to help you with your taxes this year. 

Champaign County - FREE Early Childhood Developmental Screenings!

How is your child developing? Bring your Champaign County infant or preschooler for a FREE SCREENING conducted by an Early Childhood Intervention Specialist to find out! The screening only takes 30 minutes and you'll learn specific details about your child's development. Your child's development may be screened in these areas: 



March 13th - 9 am-3 pm (Mechanicsburg Dobron Wilson Elementary preschool classroom)

March 20th - 9 am-3 pm (Urbana Local School ESC Preschool classroom)

April 10th- 9 am-3 pm (West Liberty-Salem preschool classroom- Must reside in Champaign Co)

April 18th - 9 am-12 pm (Urbana University- YMCA Healthy Kids Day)

 April 24th - 9 am-3 pm (Triad Elementary preschool classroom)

To Schedule an Appointment:

  • For newborns or children up to 34 months old, call 652-1218. If you are unavailable during these times, appointments can be made at your convenience.
  • For children ages 34 months to 5 years in Mechanicsburg, West Liberty-Salem, or Urbana School districts, call 653-5214
  • For children ages 34 months to 5 years in Graham Local School district, call 663-5339 ext. 3511 and request a preschool intake
  • For children ages 34 months to 5 years in Triad Local School district, call 826-3102 ext. 3027 and ask for Michele Peters.

Meetings are held the 2nd Thursday of Every Month from 6:30 pm-8:30 pm. Special Topics each month (March 12th will be "Writing a Letter to Your Loved One")

Tax Preparation Assistance 2015

Income Tax Preparation Assistance 2015
FREE income tax prep.  Please bring:  W2’s, unemployment income, 1099s, homeowner’s mortgage interest and real estate taxes paid,  information on health insurance coverage for everyone in the household,  Photo ID’s, SS cards for everyone in household and last year’s tax return.
Clark County:
United Senior Services, 101 S. Fountain Ave, Springfield.  Mon., Tues., and Thurs., from 1:00 pm-4:00 pm.  Starts 2/2/15 and ends 4/13/15.  APPOINTMENT ONLY-MUST CALL 323-4948

New Carlisle Public Library, 111 E. Lake Ave, New Carlisle, every Tuesday from 1:00-5:00 pm, walk-in basis.   Starts 2/3/15 and ends 4/7/15

Clark County Public Library Downtown 201 S. Fountain Ave Springfield, every Wednesday starting 2/4/15 – 4/8/15, walk-in basis.  On 2/4, 2/18, 3/4, 3/18, 4/1 the time is 9:00 am-2:00 pm.  On 2/11, 2/15, 3/11, 3/25, 4/8 the time is 9:00 am-11:00 am, must arrive 15 minutes before end of the scheduled hours.

Clark County Public Library Enon Branch 209 E. Main St. Enon, every Monday Noon- 4:00 pm starting 2/2/15 - 4/13/15, walk-in basis, must arrive by 3:45 pm.

Champaign County:

Community Action Organization-40 Monument Square, Suite 200, Urbana.  Call 937-772-9164. 
Volunteer tax preparation services for people whose income is $55,000 or less.  EVERY TUESDAY, starting Jan 27-April 7 from 11:00 am-7:00 pm.  Appointments are encouraged, but walk-ins will be accepted.  Call the above number to schedule.

St. Paris Public Library-127 E. Main St, St. Paris.  Mondays  starting 2/2/15 from 10:00 am-2:00 pm.  Call 663-4349 to schedule an appointment.

Urbana Champaign Senior Center, 701 S. Walnut Rd. Urbana.  Tuesday and Thursday from 9:30 am-3:00 pm, Must call 653-6088 to schedule an appointment.

Madison County:

Clark County Emergency Assistance
Salvation Army (322-3434) can help with electric (Ohio Edison only) taking phone calls Mondays at 9:00 am.
St. Vincent De Paul (322-0838) can help with rent, utilities, and other various emergency financial assistance. Taking phone calls Tuesday or Friday at 10:00 am.
HEAP (325-8366) winter crisis program now available, assistance with utilities
PRC through DJFS (327-1700) can help with various emergency financial assistance, you must have an income and children to qualify.
Champaign County Emergency Assistance
Catholic Charities (652-2125) can help with limited emergency assistance, taking phone calls the first Wednesday of the month only
Community Action (772-9164)  winter crisis program now available, assistance with utilities
PRC through DJFS (484-1500) can help with various emergency financial assistance, you must be working and have children to qualify.

Community Action Partnership -HEAP moves in Champaign County

Community Action Partnership has moved to 40 Monument Square, Suite 200, Urbana, OH 43078. 

They have a new phone number as well- (937)772-9164.  They serve as the local HEAP office.  Summer Crisis Program is going on now!!! Air Conditioners! Electric Assistance!
They also offer the following programs:
Family Development Program- Case management- advocacy and support
Work Related Assistance Programs- gas cards, tools, uniforms and other items needed to sustain a job
Utility Assistance- HEAP, PIPP Plus
Energy Efficiency- HWAP and Appliance Replacement

Lead Safe Program

The Lead Safe Program through The City of Springfield is now serving all of Clark County.  The program provides up to $8000 per unit to assist with lead hazard control costs through a no interest, no monthly payment, deferred loan.  After 3 years, 50% of the loan can be forgiven.
Property Eligibility:
  • Must not be palacarded by the Health District, scheduled for demolition, or in foreclosure
  • Must be in habitable, safe, sanitary condition
Owner Eligibility
  • Must have a child under age of 6 in residence
  • Owner must be the deed holder
  • Must be current on mortgae payments
Occupant Eligibility
  • Must be income eligible household
    • 2 person below $34,600
    • 3 person below $38,900
    • 4 person below $43,200
    • 5 person below $46,700
    • add $3450 per each additional person
